Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Re-Cut With Four Additional Scenes – But Not To Meet Chinese Regulators

According to a report from Deadline.com, there were murmurs in the industry that Quentin Tarantino would be adding additional scenes to his ninth film, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood after it premiered at Cannes Film Festival, and now it has finally arrived.

Sony intends to drop the re-release in approximately 1,500 theaters this Friday. Reportedly, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is his second-highest-grossing total ever, alongside the massive success of Django Unchained starring Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood first hit theaters during the final weekend of July with $41 million and it was one of few productions that weren’t related to Disney in some way. Cinema fans know that Disney dominated the box office this summer, with hits like Lion King, Aladdin, and more.

It’s unquestionable that Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was a big hit, and reportedly, Leonardo DiCaprio will run in the Oscars’ best actor category whereas Brad Pitt will run in the supporting actor category. Adrian Smith, the President Of Domestic Distribution, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, said that audiences had shown the film “tremendous support.”

The movie hasn’t been without its fair share of controversies, however, including, primarily, the way in which Quentin Tarantino chose to portray Mike Moh’s character, Bruce Lee. Rather than show Bruce as the stoic martial arts expert as many of his fans have come to know and appreciate, Quentin portrayed him as an arrogant fool.

In fact, even Bruce’s daughter, Shannon Lee, came out to criticize Quentin’s depiction of her father in the movie. Shannon claimed Quentin had called back to a time when Asian men were more stigmatized by Hollywood and the entertainment industry through the use of racial stereotypes.

Moreover, The Hollywood Reporter claims the depiction of Bruce Lee might have something to do with the recently revealed news that China had pulled Once Upon A Time In Hollywood from theaters at the last minute.

Allegedly, Shannon Lee spoke with the Chinese regulators and had the movie removed.
